Feast of Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra

Yes Virginia, St. Nicholas was real. More from the Catholic Encyclopedia and Catholic Online. He’s also venerated by the Eastern Church. Wikipedia. He is the patron of children and protector of sailors.

Jesse Tree reading for Tuesday: The Fall (Genesis 3:1-24). Last night was The Flood (Genesis 6:11-22, 8:6-12).

At the den meeting last night, the grandparents of one of our scouts visited and gave a brief presentation on Hanukkah. The boys seemed suitably impressed with the backstory, and really – what’s not to like about a story featuring a hero named “The Hammer”? Not accidentally was he considered one of the Nine Worthies.
