When they married 22 years ago, Jim and Sue planned to have two children of their own. ‘But when we couldn’t have our own, rather than spend thousands on IVF, we decided to go for adoption,’ says Sue.

‘We were determined to be parents and we didn’t want to let the chance go while we spent years trying to conceive.’

In the past 17 years, they have adopted four girls and four boys – sisters Lisa, now 26, and Justine, 23, followed by brothers Chris, 21, and Wayne, 20, and their last four children, Annie, 13, Claire, 10, Matthew, eight, and Patrick, seven. The couple are also grandparents to Lisa’s three children, Andrew, eight, Charlie, five and Ruby, three.
