The jamboree was great fun on Saturday, though we didn’t stay too long. It started getting warm and the littlest ones were starting to get uncomfortable in the heat. We drove through some new stretches of back roads and saw some beautiful scenery. A long sunshower blew through in the evening and the kids spent [...]

Getting killed at the office today, so this will be brief. We spent a goodly part of the weekend making stuff: banana-honey whole wheat bread, shrimp and corn chowder, salsa, yogurt, and mayonnaise. It was all delicious. It rained on my designated mowing day, so I’ll have to make it up for it this [...]

Just under 16 miles. One deer and two rabbits. I head a bobwhite quail off in the distance at one point, but didn’t spot it. Also heard a peacock shrieking. Lots of folks apparently keep them around here - there are at least 2 other houses along the ride where you can see them (or [...]

Midsummer. The Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. The weekend in which we baptize Buttercup, and play host to in-laws, outlaws and the dear friends who served as godparents.
Last night we did a head count and discovered that there were 17 people asleep in our house, 12 of them children ranging from [...]

At last. This is my day to ride, but since we have company coming in from out of town, I went early this morning. Cool and a little on the humid side - at that hour (5:20), the dew point and temperature were the same which means 100% relative humidity. Surprised some deer and saw [...]

We live at the edge of our particular town, and our riding loops take us out into some nice, rural areas. Wildlife sightings are quite common. Last night Ezmerelda saw a fawn and its mother. I’d been keeping my eyes peeled for deer, but hadn’t spotted any so far. My last ride saw the usual [...]

NIce and easy day so far, and the afternoon will be blown wide open by a co-worker’s baby-shower. I only had one day’s notice, but was nevertheless able to locate a local distributor of Maya Wraps, so we got one for the parents-to-be.
As mentioned previously: planting/weeding/mowing tomorrow, and maybe I’ll get a chance to make [...]

You know what’s cool about being Catholic? Things like this: the patron saint of cyclists. Pray for me, Madonna del Ghisallo, that I might be guided clear of the low shoulders and nutty drivers. Tonight is my evening to ride: 14 miles again! Woo-hoo!
Up to Act III in The Comedy of Errors. So far I’m [...]

Busy weekend. We saw the addition of a second bicycle to the household and made the 40 mile trek to the closest Costco before our memberships expire - we loaded up on coffee and some other odds and ends. Oh, all right - mostly baked goods. But also diapers and produce.
There’s a Sam’s Club not [...]

10.5 miles in 44:55 for an average speed of 14 mph, according to mapitpronto.com. Created a new route that keeps me off the nasty bits that are perpetually under construction. Beautiful countryside for most of it. Neighborhoods and wide shoulders for the rest. Rolling hills and flats - nothing too sinister. It’s a total loop, [...]
