Saturday Dessert
January 13, 2008 by fosco
For lack of ingredients, this had to be postponed twice. But here it is, finally, after tonight’s triumph.
Bananas Fosco
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1/4 C. brown sugar
- 1/4 C. butter (half a stick)
- one shot of bourbon
- vanilla ice cream
Cut the bananas in half and slice lengthwise. Melt the butter over medium-high heat then add the brown sugar, stirring occasionally until the sugar is melted completely and the whole thing begins to foam a little. Add the bananas and let them sautée for about one minute, then turn them over for an additional minute. Add the bourbon and if you’re feeling adventurous, set aflame. Once the fire dissipates, serve the bananas layered in vanilla ice cream and top with some of the remaining sauce. I won’t claim to be the first one to use bourbon instead of rum for this impromptu take on Bananas Foster (which uses dark rum and banana liqueur), but this turned out pretty good.
My only regret is that it didn’t last long enough to photograph, but I’m sure you get the idea. Bon Appétit.
(It ought to go without saying, but the children are all in bed after eating their ice cream sundaes, so they missed out on the fireworks.)

Sounds delicious. I will have to try it.
